stripCHORDer:LIVE!

See a song's chords before you hear them. It buffers the audio of the tab you're playing, names the chord early, and shows you the capo shape to fret.

How it works

Play a song in any tab — a video, a stream, a practice track. Click the stripCHORDer:LIVE! icon to turn it on for that tab.

All of the analysis happens inside your browser, on your computer. Nothing is uploaded and there is no account.

Installing

Then open a tab with music in it, click the toolbar icon, and press play.

What it asks for, and why

PermissionWhat it's for
tabCaptureReads the audio of the tab you switched it on for. This is the whole feature — there is no chord to name without the sound.
activeTabLets it act on the tab you clicked the icon on, and only that one.
scriptingDraws the chord readout and the capo shape onto the page you're watching.
offscreenRuns the audio buffer and the analysis in a hidden document, so the work doesn't stutter the page.
storageRemembers your settings and presets — delay, display size, capo, and so on — on your own machine.

No host permissions are requested, no browsing history is read, and no data leaves your computer. See the privacy policy.

Troubleshooting

No chords appear

Make sure audio is actually playing in that tab, and that you clicked the icon on that tab. Reload the page and switch it on again.

The chord is early or late against the sound

Open the extension's settings and adjust the buffer/delay. More delay means a longer look-ahead and a more confident chord; less delay means the audio feels tighter.

It names the wrong chord

Dense mixes, heavy distortion and solo-heavy passages are the hard cases. Give the detector a couple of bars to settle. If a specific song is consistently wrong, tell me which one — that's the most useful bug report there is.

Audio sounds doubled or echoey

Turn it off and on again for that tab — that clears the capture and rebuilds the buffer.

It stopped working after a browser update

Reload the tab first. If it's still dead, remove and reinstall the extension, then let me know your browser version.
