Privacy policy

This covers the stripCHORDer:LIVE! browser extension and the website at badaddacus.com. Both are made by one person, William France, trading as badaddacus.

The short version

The extension: what it touches

Tab audio

When you switch stripCHORDer:LIVE! on for a tab, it captures that tab's audio stream and keeps a short rolling buffer of it in memory in order to work out the chords. That buffer lives only in your browser's memory, is continuously overwritten, and is discarded when you switch the extension off or close the tab. It is never written to disk, never transmitted, and never shared. The extension does not use your microphone unless you have explicitly chosen a microphone input in its own settings, and that audio is treated exactly the same way: analysed locally, buffered in memory, never sent anywhere.

Your settings

Preferences and presets — delay, display options, capo choice and so on — are stored using the browser's extension storage on your own device. They are not synced to me. Removing the extension removes them.

What it does not do

The extension makes no network requests of its own. It does not read your browsing history, does not read page content beyond drawing its own readout onto the page you switched it on for, does not identify you, and does not run on tabs you haven't activated it on. Links inside it that point to a store listing or to Ko-fi are ordinary links — they only go anywhere if you click them, and then the destination's own policies apply.

The website: what it collects

The feedback form

If you submit the feedback form, I receive exactly what you typed: the category, your message, and — only if you filled them in — your name, email address, the song or page involved, and your browser version. Form submissions are processed and stored by Netlify, which hosts this site, and are used for one purpose: reading your message and replying to it.

Every field except the message itself is optional. If you leave the email field blank, your submission is effectively anonymous — but I then have no way to answer you.

Hosting

This site is hosted by Netlify. Like essentially every web host, Netlify keeps standard server logs (including IP addresses) for security and operational reasons. I don't add analytics, cookies, or trackers of my own on top of that. The site loads its typefaces from Google Fonts, which means your browser makes a request to Google's font servers when a page loads.

How long things are kept

Feedback submissions are kept while they're useful — typically until the bug is fixed or the conversation is finished — and I clear out old ones periodically. Ask me to delete yours and I will.

Your rights

You can ask me what I hold about you, ask for a copy of it, ask for it to be corrected, or ask for it to be deleted. Email badaddacus@gmail.com and I'll do it. Since the only thing I hold is what you sent me through the form, this is usually a very short conversation.

Children

These tools aren't directed at children under 13, and I don't knowingly collect anything from them.

Changes

If this policy changes, the date at the top changes with it. If a change ever meant the extension started collecting something, that would be said plainly here first.
